The children meet once or twice a month and explore different media and subject matter. So far, they have enjoyed working in pencil, charcoal, crayon and watercolor pencils, as well as using tempera, watercolor and acrylic paints. Some simple print-making, wire sculpture and mixed-media collage are also part of the association's curriculum.
Over the last couple of years, these young artists have participated in a studio art tour and street fairs, sold greeting cards of their original designs at Gallery 10, and produced pieces that are now hanging in the Pediatric Center at Sutter Amador Hospital. Instructors Donna LaVecchia and Jennifer Pechette also participated in Kids College last spring. The association has had two outdoor art events at Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park and is planning a field trip to the Crocker Art Museum this spring. It also has plans to possibly have some of the children's work available to purchase at the Farmers Market this summer.
Gallery 10 in Sutter Creek will be honoring these children and their teachers for the entire month. A special reception for them will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Susan's Place will provide refreshments. The gallery is located at 15 Eureka St., Sutter Creek, and is open Thursday through Monday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. during the winter. For more information, call the gallery at 267-0203, or check out www.gallery10suttercreek.com.
